I loved our special Christmas Market trip to Germany! A friend who lives in Wiesbaden invited Iris and me to explore the nearby markets with her, and we were more than happy to oblige. It was the perfect place to be during our first Christmas season after my husband’s passing. From the local favorites to the unique finds, and from the way my daughter brought joy to the Germans to the way she walked down the street like she owned the place, we had the best time. Here is your guide to the Wiesbaden Christmas market and beyond!
Get There
Wiesbaden is just 45-minutes by train from the closest international airport in Frankfurt (FRA). Taxis and Uber are both quite expensive (around €80), but they’re also faster and come with door-to-door service. Choose wisely! Train tickets are easy to buy, with just a simple button to push to go through the process in English. First order of business upon arrival: Pretzel time!

Eat This
We ate so much amazing food in Wiesbaden! Between the sweets, the schnitzel, the pretzels, and the baby-ccinos, we enjoyed all the gastronomic delights there. My local friend took us to the most amazing place for coffee and cake, every restaurant had a “baby-ccino” (warm milk in an espresso cup) available for my daughter, and, of course, the Christmas market food was the star of the show!

See and Do
Even if you don’t make it here for the Christmas market, you will have plenty to keep you busy in Wiesbaden. I loved walking around the old city center to admire the architecture and browse the shops. I found the most beautiful peacock handbag at a boutique called Diva, which is owned by a former flight attendant. We went to see the huge poinsettia Christmas tree at the Kurhaus more than once on our trip. And I made a special side trip by myself (sans baby) to the Wiesbaden Museum to see the Ophelia painting–yes, the one that is now Taylor Swift famous!

Stay Here
Wiesbaden is sorely lacking in hotels, but I loved staying at the Radisson Blu Schwarzer Bock. Not only do they have an impressive spa, their location is ideal. Just steps from a bus stop, walking distance from the train station, and mere blocks from the main square and Christmas Market, you won’t find a more convenient place to stay. My spa recommendation: The Candle Massage. Thank me later!

Enjoy the Christmas Market
Wiesbaden’s Christmas Market seemed to go on and on! There were many dozens of stalls, with a vast array of products and gifts for everyone on my Christmas list. We saw everything from kitchen wares to honey and beeswax products, and from jewelry to handmade woodwork. There were tons of fun things for kids, parents, grandparents, friends, and everyone else you love. While here, you’ll also hear singing and instrumental performances, have the opportunity to ride a carousel, and more, all under the magnificent Wiesbaden Cathedral.
