I admit it: I’m not much of a shopper. But, much like other facts about people in general, the same does not apply on travel. I love finding the most unique, local gifts for friends and family (and myself!) whenever and wherever I travel. And actually, Granada was the perfect place for this. There seemed to be a locally-made outdoor market every weekend (yes, even in January!), and even the “tourist” shops stocked items that were marked “Made in Spain.” Believe it or not, many of the things I bought were made in Granada! Take a look at the best souvenirs in Granada, Spain.

Ceramics

If you’re looking for something beautiful and authentic to take home for yourself or a loved one, consider a ceramic item (or set of items). You’ll find everything from bowls to mugs, and from olive oil bottles to vases. The classic color scheme is blue and white, but you’ll find a variety if colors available around the city. Most shops have similar prices on their ceramics, but I did notice (too late) that the ceramics in the Albaicin shops were a few Euros more expensive than around Bib-Rambla. The ones below came from a shop exclusively selling locally made ceramics, located right in front of Granada Cathedral.

The most authentic are blue and white with a pomegranate motif, but you can find all colors of the rainbow and hundreds of different patterns out there!

Perfume

There is a surprising number of perfume stores in Granada, but the one I love most is Patio de los Perfumes. All of their scents are made entirely from natural ingredients, and they are made right there in Granada. You can even contact them in advance to schedule a guided tour or create your own perfume! Try the Granata scent while you’re in there. In fact, try as many scents as you like! What else makes this place so unique? Their namesake patio, and their free museum. They’re located on picturesque Carrera del Darro, one of the most beautiful streets in Europe, and this is one of the most unique souvenirs in Granada.

Nuts

This was news to me: Spain is a major producer of nuts! That’s the reason you’ll see them in so many shops, and even see entire shops dedicated to them. We loved popping into Sabor a España as often as possible. It was easy, since there’s one on just about every block of the old town, but who am I kidding? The real reason was the free samples! I brought home some truly delicious packages of candied nuts, nut butters, and variety packages for myself and several friends. I’ll be enjoying a taste of Spain for a while.

Sweets

Granada might have the best variety of sweets anywhere I’ve traveled. Here, you’ll be able to try nougat, candied nuts, Turkish delight, baklava, cookies, candies, pastries, cakes, cheesecake, piononos (Granada’s signature sweet), churros, and so much more. Everyone wants a taste of something authentic, making this the perfect souvenir in Granada. Try them all while you’re here, and plan to take some home with you. Trust me, it’ll be worth making room in your luggage!

Olive Oil

Okay, here’s another shocking fact for you: Spain is the largest producer of olive oil in the world. It’s true. That’s why you’ll find olives, olive oil, and olive oil products like lotions and soaps as souvenirs in Granada and the surrounding area. You can even try olive oil chocolate! There’s an entire shop dedicated to olive oil next to Granada Cathedral, which is where I selected unique oils, olives, and soaps for friends and family. I suggest you consider doing the same!

Tales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving

Written by Washington Irving during his time living in the then-abandoned Alhambra, this classic has been translated into dozens of languages. Many of these translations are available in a variety of gift shops across the city—yes, at the Alhambra gift shops, too! You can find the original version, and some for children, too. If you have a history lover or reader on your gift list for any occasion, they’ll be delighted you brought one of these back for them. This is one of the quintessential souvenirs in Granada, and one you can read as often as you like to remind yourself of your trip.

Anything with a Pomegranate

Did you know that “Granada” literally translates to “pomegranate” (and “grenade,” but that’s a different kind of gift)? That’s why you’ll see pomegranates on everything from bags to ceramics to jewelry to bud vases and scarves. You can even get it in a perfume! A pomegranate-inspired item will always remind you where you found it, and is sure to bring back fond memories.

Espadrilles

Admittedly, I am not a shoe person. However, i have always thought espadrilles were so unique and versatile. The iconic rope soles and canvas uppers can be as casual as you want, and the designs are so beautiful. I found a lovely pair for myself that’s both colorful enough to be fun, and neutral enough to go with lots of outfits in my closet. They are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn, and definitely one of my favorite souvenirs in Granada!

A Flamenco Dress and Accessories

Did you know that flamenco dancing and singing began in the mountain caves of Granada? That’s why you’ll find flamenco performances available every night of the week. And why you’ll see flamenco shops all around the city! The dresses, shawls, fans, earrings, shoes, and other accessories are not inexpensive, but if you’re feeling inspired, you can find a beautiful, unique flamenco wardrobe for yourself or someone you love. My little girl chose this sweet, purple-and-white polka dot dress!
