We had the most amazing experiences at Solio Lodge, a property from The Safari Collection. I wish we’d had more time, so that we could have enjoyed more of their activities–a good reason to go back in the future! I want to make sure you know what the options are and have all the details possible to make the most of your trip, so here are the best things to do at Solio Lodge by the Safari Collection.
Visit the Rhinoceros Orphanage
This was such a treat! Not only can you see and pet baby rhinos, you can also feed them! The rhinos are the star, but you’ll be delighted to find more animals here as well. When we visited in March 2026, we met impalas, an Eland, and a zebra, in addition to six baby rhinos. The Orphanage is on the Solio Game Reserve, so it’s just a short drive from Solio Lodge. Get your reservation in advance, as the feedings take place only at certain times of day. It will be well worth your time.

Go on Morning and Evening Game Drives
This is why you came, right? Definitely do as many game drives as you can while you’re here. Our driver and spotter were amazing (Thank you, John and George!), and they made sure, as far as they could, that we saw every type of animal that lives in the park. Animals are unpredictable, of course, and there is no guarantee, but they did everything within their power to make it happen for us. We went in search of lions, a leopard, black rhinos, and more, and we saw all of them. The bush breakfast and sundowner snacks made for delicious ends to our adventures, and I wouldn’t trade any of the experiences from our game drives.

Visit Cinnabar Green Essential Oils Farm
I am a sucker for locally made, self care items, so when I learned we could visit the farm where all of The Safari Collection properties source their soaps, lotions, and other luxury toiletries, I knew we needed to visit! I’d never visited an essential oils farm before, so this was a special treat for me. We were fascinated to learn about how the essential oils are extracted, and the health benefits of each plant’s oil. I definitely came home with some of their luxurious products, and I might even need to re-order some now that I’m home!

Enjoy a Coffee at the Lodge
This was my favorite way to spend a rainy afternoon during our trip. Give me an iced coffee, some time to make notes for my upcoming articles, and a comfy chair? I’m there. I’m not much of a “lodge” person in general, but Solio Lodge is absolutely stunning. The natural elements and outdoorsy color tones made me feel like I was having an indoor-outdoor experience, which I loved. Special thanks to my friend who traveled with us for giving me some alone time while my daughter took her nap one afternoon!

Get a Massage at Your Villa
This is the ultimate in relaxation. Having a massage inside my villa was going to be kind of stressful–baby sounds, dirty diapers, thinking of the things I need to be doing in the room to tidy up after my toddler, etc. The solution? The beautiful deck. My masseuse, Purity, set up the table out on our back deck, in the shade, and gave me one of the most relaxing massages I’ve ever had. From the “outside” sounds to the gentle breeze, this was the best massage situation ever. Definitely take advantage of this! Want to make it next level amazing? Take a little time at the onsite sauna before or after your treatment.

Take a Look at More Options Before You Go
Between toddler naps, meals, and game drives, we didn’t have much time for excursions! Solio Lodge has so many options for any interest or activity level. Their full list of activities is here, so take a look before your trip and make a plan! Cycling, walking tours, and horseback riding are all activities I wish I’d had time for, and they even have lawn games and toys for children of all ages to play with–even my toddler. Each villa has paints and paper available for your artistic little one, and there is lots of green space for running and playing right behind the lodge.
