Giraffes, warthogs, luxury accommodations, and three Michelin keys? It’s all the reality of a stay at Giraffe Manor. Every meal was over-the-top, and every bite was above and beyond. The service, though? Unparalleled. Not only do the staff take care of all your dining needs, they take the most amazing photos, especially at breakfast and afternoon tea, when the resident giraffes join in. I was sad to leave, largely because that meant I had to start cooking for myself again. I prefer a chef now. I’m ruined for life. Here is the best food we ate at Giraffe Manor.
Breakfast
A multi-course breakfast? Yes, please! We started each morning with pastries, muffins, pancakes, and fruit. Some would stop there, but not us! We saved as much room as possible for the main event. Between the two of us, we tried almost everything on the menu during our stay, and we can safely recommend it all. When your menu includes breakfast items named for past and present giraffe residents (Ed’s Benedict, anyone?), you know you’re in for a fun time. My favorite? Betty’s Brioche French Toast. Notice the giant bite taken out before I remembered to take the photo!

Lunch
Gourmet lunch? I’m there! Every luncheon began with the most delicious salad, flat bread, and “munchies” to go with it. Every entree was filled with flavor–can I have that Nile Perch Kebab every day, please? Each dessert left me wanting seconds, even though I never left hungry. And props to the staff, who always made sure my toddler daughter, Iris, had plenty to eat. They brought mango, yogurt, blueberries, cheese (all her favorites), and she tried a bit of mine as well. The high chair was always set up for her in advance, and if I ever needed help feeding her so that I could eat, someone was ready to jump in. Peep her happy face below as we dined alfresco!

Afternoon Tea
Think afternoon tea is just flavored water? Not here. This is a proper, British-style afternoon tea, complete with fine china, linens, delicate sweets, pastries, scones with clotted cream and jam, savory bites, fruit, and cookies. All that and some face time with giraffes, too! This is the time to meet the giraffes and feed them for the cameras. Yes, you want to surrender your camera or phone to the staff–they know the best shots and how to take them! Feed the giraffes as much and for as long as you want. Feed them all, or pick a favorite. But don’t be late! You’ll get the rules and fascinating giraffe info before you start feeding and before tea. You will love this afternoon activity, perhaps most of all.

Dinner
Talk about ending on a high note. Not that we ever had a chance to get hungry, but we did thoroughly enjoy every dinner course, every evening. Whether you’re a carnivore or a vegetarian, you’ll be satisfied with the meal options. I tried things I’d never heard of before, and savored “normal” things like steak and potatoes in ways I’d never imagined. And dessert? Wow. It was amazing. That’s all there is to it. Can I have a chocolate fondant cake and miso ice cream every night for the rest of my life, please?

Coffee
Coffee lovers, get ready. It doesn’t matter if you’re a black coffee snob or a frou-frou coffee drinker. You’re going to love this. There are two coffee shops on the Giraffe Manor property: Daisy’s Cafe at The Retreat and the Orchid and Bean. In addition to those, you can order whatever coffee you want at any meal. Over and above that, you can order a coffee from any staff member, any time of day, anywhere on the property. My favorite part? Definitely the latte art! Sometimes there was a message or drawing on my coffee, and often there was a giraffe, or two, or three on top! Little details like that give me so much joy, and because they use excellent beans, the coffee tastes just as good as it looks.
